Do people not bother to read? Do they skim over, look at key words, and then make assumptions as to what I've said in the other 1,500 words? Someone, once again, decided to make an enormous comment that was, surprise-surprise, merely a copy/paste from another article. This one was big... STOP DOING THAT. I will not post them. Link to it, give your own summary... Use your own ideas. Don't paste another site in verbatim, please. I won't post it. I did, however, read it because it was too irritating to pass up.
They basically pasted this forum post from Sean Hannity's site that brings up a bunch of technicalities on why Obama's citizenship isn't the way to go and I vehemently disagree. For the record, when I heard that both McCain and Obama might not be natural born citizens, I wondered why both of them were even running for president. McCain proved he was born on American soil and got that taken care of... Obama did not. It's as simple as that. The post talks about how we should vote against Obama because his policies are wicked crazy and stupid and that we shouldn't be "resorting to trickery of the law." Excuse me? Since when is making sure a Presidential candidate considered "trickery of the law?" He's either eligible or NOT eligible, and he's not come out and proven that he's a natural born citizen of the United States. If he can't do that, he's not eligible to run for President, period, end of story. It's un-Constitutional, not "trickery." Why is it that even someone claiming to be a Republican is giving Obama a pass on this? Why did they also completely ignore the fact that the courts said voters had no standing to question this? People are saying "it's only a birth certificate", but that's just it! It's his BIRTH CERTIFICATE. It's a Constitutional violation if he can't prove he's eligible for President, which he hasn't. He has, in fact, gone to extreme measures so he doesn't have to do that! Why would anyone do that? He's a public official running for the most powerful office in the most powerful country on this planet... He has no right to privacy in this matter. We need to know if he's Constitutionally eligible to be President. The fact that the courts tossed it out because someone not already a politican can't raise this issue is another huge Constitutional violation. It's Constitutional violations out the ears, here!
The post goes on to give reasons why Obama could actually be a "natural born citizen" and pulls out that tired liberal line: "Nobody really knows what the Constitution says here." There's no special way of wording it, folks... It's a document written by regular people like you and me who happened to take initiative to get our government working. It's not written in lawyer lingo... It's written at face value.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
That means exactly what it says. There's no way to twist it... You read it and take it at face value. So what does this portray when you read it at face value:
"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
It means that nobody but a natural born Citizen, a Citizen at the time the Constitution is ratified, should be let into office. They have to be 35 years old and lived inside the country for at least 14 of those years. The question rises "what does natural born Citizen mean?" Well, what the heck do you think it means? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they mean someone who, when born, was recognized as an American citizen, born on American soil. Obama was not born in American territory. McCain was born in Panama, but on an American military base, which is considered American territory. But if you would have bothered to read the post I linked to that discusses this whole thing in detail, you would see how there ARE ways to be considered a "natural born Citizen". Basically, this applies to Obama. If he was born in Kenya (which all evidence points to in spite of his saying he was born in Hawaii) to an American mother, she could still file a birth certificate to have him considered a natural born Citizen. She could have, and she might have. The point is nobody knows... And she might NOT have and there are a variety of reasons why she might not have. If she didn't, Obama is NOT a natural born American Citizen, he is a natural born Kenyan citizen which makes him totally ineligible for our office and should be kicked out of the race, period.
I totally agree... We need to vote against this guy because his policies are outright insane. They're ridiculous and stupid and have been proven time and time again in the past that they don't work. Raise taxes in a recession merits a depression, which we saw with Herbert Hoover. Unconditonally meet with dictators merits redicule and loss of standing in the world, which we saw with John F Kennedy. Redistribution of wealth is something Russia tried and look how booming their economy is. The list goes on and on. So yes, I totally agree that Obama needs to be voted down because he's crazy... But what does it say about Republicans (or anyone else for that matter) if we're willing to ignore the possibility that Obama is Constitutionally ineligible to run for President? If we break one rule of the Constitution, then we might as well thrown the whole thing out. This country has slowly twisted and perverted that document to mean whatever the heck they want it to mean, but this is crossing the line... Voters aren't allowed to question if someone meets the Constitutional requirements for office? Who gives the COURT the right to decide that? Nobody! Their sole purpose is to look at existing law and make decisions, not look at the sitution and change existing law. The courts have gone mad with power and they're being un-Constitutional. Does anyone realize how horrible that is? That's breaking the highest laws in our land... The rock solid principles this country was founded on are being thrown out the window so a liberal socialist "American" can run for office and royally foul up this country.
So no, I don't agree we should let this matter drop... If we don't stand up for the Constitution, then who will? Definitely not the Democrat-controlled Congress, that the Judge says has the "standing". Republican officials are all labeled bitter old white people who want to stop Obama because he's black. (Actually, most voters are labeled that, too, in an effort to coerce them into voting.) Obama might very well be a natural born Citizen, and the way he can prove that is to show the relevant documents... WHICH HE HAS NOT DONE for absolutely no reason. There is no reason he could come up with that could explain why he hasn't done this, because there is nothing more important than adhering the Constitution.
If you all want to bury your head in the sand, fine... But this ruling errodes your rights more than that "evil" Patriot Act (that has probably not affected you in the least bit). It's amazing how someone so targeted (the Patriot Act) can make people get so up in arms about their violation of rights, but when someone comes along and makes a broad ruling that "regular voters can't enforce the Constitution", everyone's content to sit around, shrug their shoulders and say "oh well, I'm still voting for my free health care" or "oh well, at least we can still vote against him." Preposterous... If you people were responsible for getting the country off the ground in 1776, we would still be answering to the Monarcy of England to this day.
