Speaking only by numbers, I have come across a sure-fire method to drive up the traffic to your site! Not that I actually make money with this blog... I mean, I have Google Ads stuck in the toolbar as an experiment, but other than that, traffic means nothing to me except that it tells me that people actually visit. Now, you ask me how to increase site traffic?
Make people angry! It's as simple as that. Post controversial subjects and take the stance that goes against mainstream philosophy. How well that might work if you actually believe the mainstream philosophy, I don't know, but if you're like me and enjoy stepping into heated debates and aren't worried about the impact it might have on your internet presense, then this is how do it. Here, let me show you the results for today, which just so happens to be almost a full day since my site's been posted on FSTDT.com:
Today is the point on the farthest to the right. I got a traffic spike earlier in the month... Not sure what that is. Sometimes people just flood in for no reason. Might've been when I asked what I should buy from Amazon with my gift card. Anyway... Today marks a considerable increase in the average daily visits. Why? Well, because of a post I made 2 years ago that managed to reassert itself, people saw it and decided to share it with people who would visit so they could see for themselves how insane I am! Remarkable.
Remember when I chewed on Firefox 3? Actually, I didn't chew on it... I merely pointed out that for all the uproar the open-source Linux-loving community makes when Microsoft "copies" Apple, they sure don't seem to mind it when their products copy the interface designs from others. I managed to get myself put on 4chan... Got a MASSIVE wave of traffic that entire week. Most traffic I've had since the beginning of my blog. I made that many people upset... It was brilliant! Here's the weekly chart for that post:
See the spike at Week 25? That's my Firefox post. 427 views, according to the statistics. All because I was probably the only person on the planet who was aware of Firefox 3, but wasn't drooling all over it like everyone else. Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration... But clearly I went against mainstream ideas and said something that made a LOT of people very ticked off and they all flooded here and to 4chan to mock me and make known to everyone just how stupid they thought I was. Clearly the way to get people to visit your site is to make them want to show up and tell you how insane you are! It's fun... You should try it sometime. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
