On the news...
Tuesday, November 6th, 2007I few things I heard on the news today while I was going to and from math class. First on the list is something that was featured on the Peter Heck Show! Basically about how Hollywood keeps churning out these propagandistic anti-war movies, and how they somehow keep on not doing so well! You can read it and come to your own conclusions about why they're doing poorly... That's not what I wanted to mention! What I want to mention is what a director of one of these movies witnessed during one of the opening viewings of his movie called "The Kingdom", which, of course, is about terrorists. You can read the quote from the USA Today blog or from Entertainment Weekly, it doesn't matter, because it's the same thing.
Basically, near the end of this movie, the FBI kills some terrorists. Why? I don't know. Does it matter? Not really. What matters is that when the FBI killed the terrorists. The audience cheered. That's a good thing, right? The FBI got some terrorists off the street and they won't be hurting anyone again. (Actually, the term used is "jihadists", but, hey. The jihadists are the ones going around suicide bombing. They are the terrorists because they're on jihad!)
FBI kills the terrorists, crowd cheers for this clear victory... And the director crapped his pants.
Berg was thoroughly freaked. "I was nervous it would be perceived as a jingoistic piece of propaganda, which I certainly didn't intend," says the actor-turned-director, hunched over an outdoor table at a shabby Santa Monica coffeehouse. "I thought, 'Am I experiencing American bloodlust?'"
No, sir. You're experiencing just plain ol' American patriotism. It's that feeling and mindset you have that makes you happy when the people who hate you and your country and are out to destroy you and your country are no longer a threat? He says he was worried that it would be perceived as a "jingoistic" (which means "fanatically patriotic", according to the dictionary) piece of propaganda. So let me get this straight... You weren't planning on it being a movie that says getting rid of terrorists is a good thing? You were planning on people... What? Sympathizing with the terrorists? You want the targets of the terrorists to go "aww, I pity you, let's hug!" How about this! You go hug the jihadist, mister director-man. While you're hugging him, he'll blow you up with a bomb strapped to his back... Not only will be rid of your weird, off-base movies, but we'll also be down one terrorist.
Next on the list is something I just heard on the CBS radio news, so I'll link to the article from their site. (Please ignore the "Katie Couric" blather posted up all over the place.) Basically, the news from their part of the woods is this: Are televangelists cheating? (Also see up there on the list how they conveniently stuck in how the Bush Administration gave money to them. Yeah. You got "crazy left-wing Democrat" points for that. But that is your ultimate goal, isn't it? *ahem*) Basically, CBS reported on one big "duh".
Anyone with a brain who's ever seen these people on TV know they're fake. Christians and non-Christians alike. I guess it's just that these people say what people want to hear and the audience is dumb enough to give them money so they can keep saying the things the audience wants to hear. It's a vicious cycle. Look, they even list Bennie Hinn. As if it's a shocker that he's on TV for his own gain.
If this is the kind of stuff that gets highlighted at the top of the hour on the radio, then maybe I should be a reporter. I could dredge up all the things I know and take for granted and write a report on it and get a top story! Are they running out of news or is this "expose" really that shocking to them? I'm going to guess it's a little of "we have no real news", a little of "we can't find anything bad to say about President Bush today", and a little of "hey look! here's a story about how churches are cheating people!"
Here's another top story for you CBS folks. Humans are naturally corrupt. They will do whatever works to make their precious bits of green paper and digital numbers in bank accounts. They'll even go so far as to pretend to be Christian in order to dupe those who don't know any better into giving them vast amounts of money. I know it's hard to believe, but it's people like this who give Christians a bad name. Be sure you don't make the mistake of lumping these fakes in with the rest of us who try to act like a real Christian.
