...oh boy, Er'cana.
Monday, June 4th, 2007Prepare for O'neill-esque cynicism, as TW likes to call it!
From the description on a GameTap page for Myst Online:
The next episode, “A New Light, begins in June in it, Power is shifting and new leaders begin to emerge while those from the past begin to fade. Amidst all the chaos, the Age of Er’Cana is released and Explorers are asked to help feed the darkening lake. Meanwhile, new information is revealed and more begin to fear the coming war. Er’Cana features a vast landscape with hours of unique gameplay that can be played single player or with friends.
So the next episode is scheduled for release this month. Unfortunately, unless GameTap jumped the gun and doesn't know what they're talking about, the next Age is going to be an old Path of the Shell Age. "ErÂ’Cana features a vast landscape with hours of unique gameplay that can be played single player or with friends." Where have I heard that before, hmm... Oh, Minkata! At least they weren't lying with the hours of gameplay, but we've already played Er'cana... I'm going to go back to being unhappy if each Age released with each episode has a chance of being old and boring.
Someone's going to make a comment about how not everyone's played Er'cana... Well, too bad. Those of us who wanted to help Cyan with Path of the Shell bought it and played it already. Now we get it again in a supposed release of "new" content... Whoop dee doo.
The story, of course, is going to be carried out entirely in the public city instance, which will be constantly full, preventing anyone from actually experiencing the story, what little there is to experience. Maybe Cyan will correct a few things and try to pull this story progression off a little differently. Maybe with lots of Relto pages, too.
My subscription is once again teetering on being cancelled, depending on what happens this episode. At least I subscribed to World of Warcraft again, to help combat my late night boredom. I won't be short of games to play if I cancel.
