Uru Saved Game

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Back when Until Uru was the latest game on the block, there was a massive problem with people importing saved games from the "To D'ni" and "The Path of the Shell" expansion packs. This was a very big no-no... So big, in fact, that administrators were beginning to disable importing saved games because it would seriously cripple the server. This meant that for every shardyou wanted to play on, you would have to finish the entire game... Over and over and over. It got really old really fast.

This is when I decided to try to contribute to the community, back before I knew better. (Yes, I went there.) I spent a day playing the very first release of unpatched Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, using an un-named, unmodifed avatar, for the purpose of sharing and letting people use a saved game that was absolutely sure not to react badly with the Until Uru servers! I hosted it... And never heard anything about it from anyone. I posted it a few places to let people know, and I gave it out to friends, of course. Eventually, I took it down for a variety of reasons that I really don't want to go into.

Today, however, I was looking at Google Analytics for the heck of it, and I read some stats that prompted me to take a look at my error log to see how many people were trying to access old, unavailable files. I found that my avatar folder was missing, and replaced that, but I also noticed that people are STILL trying to access the page where I hosted that saved game for Uru:ABM. Kind of interesting that people still have that link posted when it's been broken for a VERY long time, but even more interesting was that it seems that a shard actually specifically said that they would allow saved games with the sole restriction that they used MY file.

Nice to know that the saved game was, in fact, being used, but it's not nice to know that people didn't bother to let me know or... You know... I can't help but also notice how not a single person actually thanked me for the file? I don't know... I don't really care anymore, but I'm just making some observations, I suppose. I'm not really surprised that nobody told me these things, either.

Virtual Console a Success After All

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Well, well! Here's another Wii tidbit... Nintendo just announced that they've sold 4.7 million Virtual Console games since release. Looks like Digg users were wrong (again) with the fact that the games are overpriced and that nobody wants them. Well, after this, they've just changed their tune and are saying if they were cheaper, they'd be selling MORE games. Yeah... Keep on with the anti-Nintendo sentiments. You're just jealous that the Playstation 3 isn't doing as well as you predicted it would, while laughing at those of us who predicted correctly that the gaming market wanted something new, and that Nintendo was going to provide it.

One by one, Nintendo knocks off the naysayers, and not even on purpose, but because they're doing everything the right way and everyone knows it.

Bye-bye, "new BSG"!

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Fans of original 1978 Battlestar Galactica rejoice! SciFi has announced the final season of the atrocious "new" Battlestar Galactica. (This, after every main character turns out to be a Cylon. What alleged "story" is there left to tell, anyway, I wonder?) SciFi claims it's always been planned like this. Oh well... At least those of us privileged to have seen the REAL Battlestar Galactica won't have to keep hearing from everyone how awesome (haha) and deep (haha) the reimagined series is.

Hopefully, SciFi will be smart enough to not pursue any further reimagined BSG horrors. Maybe they should run a marathon of the series that actually deserves the name and show everyone what REAL storytelling is. Of course, they probably won't look past the 1978 special effects which, as a matter of fact, were cinema quality back then, and rivaled the effects of Star Wars in a TELEVISION SERIES. That'd be too much to ask of those who watch "new BSG", I think.

Geez...

Presenting, one of the most advanced headphone speakers I've ever seen...

The Sennheiser HD650!

Hitting the market at an incredibly affordable 599.95 US dollars, these headphones are sure to satisfy even the most picky music listeners! With frequency response from 10 to 39,500 hertz, you can hear everything a dog can hear! Okay, maybe not really, but still... Can you imagine how much cleaner music would be with these things strapped to your head? You'd, like... Hear every compression artifact in the song.

I, personally, have an HD497, which I have been nothing but happy with from day one. I've never had a better experience with audio than with these. Having gone through countless pairs of crappy, run of the mill headphones whose cables fray with the almost 24/7 use, I decided to drop 70 bucks on a pair of GOOD QUALITY headphones... Ones with replaceable cables, even. Even these only have a 24 to 22,000 hertz frequency response. Not noise cancelling, but oh well. Unfortunately, the HD497 has been discontinued. Luckily, they still seem to be selling replacement cables, so I'm still good for now.

But can someone please buy me the HD650? You know you want to... Just to show your appreciation of me... Or something. I don't even know why I posted this, because most of you probably think expensive headphones are a waste of resources... But I thought it was cool, SO I POSTED IT. SO THERE!
